*********This week i decided to do something different. I have decided that I'm going to donate 10% of whatever i make this week to a charity. Now I don't have a specific charity in mind but would like you guys to help me out and leave some comments on what charity you like or would like to see me donate too. On the chance that i have losing week i will still donate 10% of what I lost. So help me out with some feedback on where you like to see the money go. Thanks!
Secondly finally got a new phone which I'm pretty excited about :

Cost a decent amount since i had to buy it at retail value of 419$ but its def worth it, not to mention its ultra thin.
Poker wise I've come to a decision:
The more the summer winds on, the more I'm getting bored with poker. I know i could move up in limits and that would bring the edge back but honestly I'm comfortable with just destroying the 2/4nl games. I have no problem saying that i am one of the top 5 income earners for my level on this site. The point I'm getting at is not floating my own boat, but trying to say that in the end poker is a game. Though it may seem fulfilling at times, I know most of you wish you could do this for a living, it really isn't as great as it seems.
I'm not complaining about the money cause my bank account continues to increase in an upward rate better the most people who work full time ( I am on a 80k+ pace right now and will certainly beat 2005 earnings as well). The monotony of thinking about poker constantly is dragging on me. I feel thinking about poker drains me more then actually playing and as med school gets closer I feel that once September rolls around I will hang up my poker career for a while. I started playing a couple of years ago because i wanted to make millions and never work again. You quickly learn that is easier said then done.
As time progressed I realized poker is a slow steady grind, not a quick money fix. You really have to devote yourself to this game, like anything else in life, in order to become a +EV player. To do that you really need to eat, live and breathe it. Its tough for people to do this because of having families, jobs, gfs, or whatever is a priority in your life. I was lucky enough to be able to get through that stretch of becoming absorbed and coming out in one piece.
I started at the tiny limits of .10/.20 and played as high as 50/100 nl online (10k buy in), 25/50nl (5k buy in) in Vegas feeling now that I have accomplished what i set out to do. I am not a tourney player no will i ever be, but I'm content with the fact that if i wanted to I could play poker professional pulling a six figure salary consistently. Not many people can say that and I'm proud to say that I know I could. I'm the type of person that will jump head first into something until I feel I can beat it consistently the move on to another hobby. And over the course of the last three years poker became more then hobby at times. But as you grow and change, just like your game grows and changes with each session, its makes you the wiser.
The Law School Drop out talks about when enough money is enough. Its tough to figure that out because the more you get the more you want. I don't want to get to the point consistently moving up levels upon levels and eventually reaching a level where I go broke. This isn't a game where you just hit a reset button and start from the beginning. Its hard volatile game that in many instances you just have no control over. Which is why I think putting this game in the closet after this summer is the best decision I can make.

Whenever you're ready to donate to the CC Closet Poker Player WSOP Buy-in Charity Fund, let me know.
You played poker with turtle in A.C.? That is SO cool! I love him - he cracks me up. WHEN are you coming to Vegas?????????
WHEN????????????
Rav,
Great Post.
This post is more serious than you usually are, so I'll respond in kind. {Although I'm glad you'd like the banner - knew you would.)
Here's my take, disregard at will.
1. The charity idea is, like all great ideas, brilliant and simple. I remember your review of Ace on the River. You liked the book, but found much of it irrelevant to what a guy at your level needed. My guess is this concept of donating 10% would make Barry very happy and might be the best thing to come out of his publishing it. For a charity, I'd recommend starting with something local and smaller scale (a homeless shelter, battered wives center, etc) so you can really see the effect of what you're giving. That's how my wife and I started and its been very rewarding.
2.I think anyone who has read your blog would agree you could do this for a living, and to hear you expound on why that may not be such a great thing was fascinating. MiamiDon and I were just talking yesterday about how you could take a year off and really do some damage. Kids (sorry dude, but after PGY-8! all med students seem like kids to me) take a year off all the time and med school just waits till you're ready. At least you'd be 100X more productive than most on their down time...
Damn, too long already and just getting warmed up. Shoot me an email if you ever want to get into this - since I know exactly what's on the other side of the looking glass.
Again, Great Post.
Donating 10% is very nice of you, and at your current pace that could be a nice amount.
One suggestion is the Red Cross, that's where I have made the majority of my donations latley. They help with pretty much everything.

tx for the responses so far guy the red cross is def one that was on my mind, along w/ leukemia/lymphoma society, autism awareness and cancer ones but we'll see as the week progress to which one i'll chose. Though i did like your local idea Iak. Towards the taking a year off at this point I've slacked enough in life and taking a year off in my opinion would be doing exactly that though the thought has def crossed my mind on many occasions. I'm actually surpised that i didnt drop out of college and start playing to be honest. Iak i will def shoot u an email down the line cause i have alot of question towards the medical field from a perspective other then my mom (she's a pedatrician)....
